So glad that Thom's character was not axed!

Guessing Padan Fain is only in one episode in season 1 then?

It would have been horrendously stupid to axe Thom. Glad he's in.

Looks like. You really only need him in that first episode in Emond's Field as far as EotW goes. Obviously he plays a much larger role in The Great Hunt, so it's good they're establishing his character here.

Not sure what they'll do with the Fain/Mordeth storyline, but I'm guessing it's side-questy enough to get cut from the show.

They went with Loial, guess we will have Ogier after all. Lots of content for them to work with.

I guess they cut him out as the beggar in Camelyn and his appearance in Fal Dara if he's only in one episode.

They will need to rewrite the plot of Book 2 a bit without Fain

Evidently they take it off your watchlist after 15 days of inactivity.

Glad he is cast, but it's going to be interesting to see if this guy has the range to do all the fun/whimsical stuff Thom can do.

He looks way too young for Thom but with makeup it will probably work well.

That, and looking at his pictures, he seems kind of brooding. I feel like this guy might have actually made a good Lan going exclusively by the look of him in GIS. I imagine Thom as being a bit more grandfatherly, warm, kind, etc. Like the whole sequence with Elaine tugging on his mustaches really comes to mind here. Guess we'll see how they present him.

I agree on the grandfatherly look, but when they announced the TV series, I had assumed that they would cast a younger Thom just due to the physical nature of the role. So I was expecting someone in their 40's.

Hoping the next WoT will include Min, Elayne, Morgase, Gawyn, and Galad actors.

Thom was light and whimsical on stage, but otherwise I pictured him as worn, grizzled, weathered, and even a little weary. He's been places and seen stuff and doesn't want much more than to go to the next town and get a warm meal and a bed for the night. I think this guy can do that.

He is also a certified badass with a blade. Kind of a jovial assassin. He might have one of the harder roles to act.

Yea thats why I was saying I wasnt sure about the light hearded parts, but he definitely has shown he can do the darker aspects of Thom's role imo.

The Thom performance could definitely be a big make or break for the show. I feel like he was probably the only character that was universally liked by readers. Adds some maturity to the whole story as well, similar to Aragorn in LoTR with the hobbits. I think a strong performance in this role could really elevate the whole thing.

Anyone agree? Any other characters you see as pivotal for the show? Ironically the main character of the whole series, Rand, probably won't be as large of a part of the first (of I hope many) season, but then will grow in importance over time.

Probably how the 3 main girls are portrayed, not too annoying and still likable

There are so many characters pivotal to the show, any miscast of the major players would throw the show off for me. Mat is my favorite character and I'm really hoping they nail him. And I really hope they do justice to the Foxes and Snakes and his first visit to their world in Tear. I love that scene.

Really? I would bet that was Mat, he was my favorite especially at the end. Nobody disliked Thom, but I don't think anyone really disliked Mat. And Mat was that one that became your favorite but hadn't started out that way.

This. Mat was awesome. Easily one of my favorite characters across all books. Also curious how they are going to do his flashbacks later on in books

That's a really good question. Those flashbacks could be loads of fun. Looking through his eyes as he is defending a bridge or a ford, dying over and over. Meeting Artur hawkwing and other famous past generals. May maybe standing on a ridge and all of a sudden flashing back in his memory is attacking or defending a ridge like it. Memories popping up as he talks about the siege on Cairhien. There is so much they can do with that.

I always enjoyed Thom, but (for me) the make or break character is from Malkier and carries the banner of the golden crane.

Next would be Mat and his dice rolling head.

It will also be important to see how they have Perrin interact with the wolves. We have seen it in other shows, like GoT and how they can be shown in fights. The whole wolf dream combined with how he let's the "wolf" Take over will be interesting.

So many cool aspects that I am remembering. I need to reread them for the third time lol
