So glad that Thom's character was not axed!

Looks like. You really only need him in that first episode in Emond's Field as far as EotW goes. Obviously he plays a much larger role in The Great Hunt, so it's good they're establishing his character here.
Not sure what they'll do with the Fain/Mordeth storyline, but I'm guessing it's side-questy enough to get cut from the show.
They will need to rewrite the plot of Book 2 a bit without FainMicah97 said:Chase McGuire said:

I guess they cut him out as the beggar in Camelyn and his appearance in Fal Dara if he's only in one episode.
Evidently they take it off your watchlist after 15 days of inactivity.bluefire579 said:
Oops, just saw it. Wasn't on my watchlist for some reason

He looks way too young for Thom but with makeup it will probably work well.PatAg said:Glad he is cast, but it's going to be interesting to see if this guy has the range to do all the fun/whimsical stuff Thom can do.Chase McGuire said:

That, and looking at his pictures, he seems kind of brooding. I feel like this guy might have actually made a good Lan going exclusively by the look of him in GIS. I imagine Thom as being a bit more grandfatherly, warm, kind, etc. Like the whole sequence with Elaine tugging on his mustaches really comes to mind here. Guess we'll see how they present him.KidDoc said:He looks way too young for Thom but with makeup it will probably work well.PatAg said:Glad he is cast, but it's going to be interesting to see if this guy has the range to do all the fun/whimsical stuff Thom can do.Chase McGuire said:

He is also a certified badass with a blade. Kind of a jovial assassin. He might have one of the harder roles to act.heddleston said:
Thom was light and whimsical on stage, but otherwise I pictured him as worn, grizzled, weathered, and even a little weary. He's been places and seen stuff and doesn't want much more than to go to the next town and get a warm meal and a bed for the night. I think this guy can do that.
Yea thats why I was saying I wasnt sure about the light hearded parts, but he definitely has shown he can do the darker aspects of Thom's role imo.heddleston said:

The Thom performance could definitely be a big make or break for the show. I feel like he was probably the only character that was universally liked by readers. Adds some maturity to the whole story as well, similar to Aragorn in LoTR with the hobbits. I think a strong performance in this role could really elevate the whole thing.
Anyone agree? Any other characters you see as pivotal for the show? Ironically the main character of the whole series, Rand, probably won't be as large of a part of the first (of I hope many) season, but then will grow in importance over time.
Really? I would bet that was Mat, he was my favorite especially at the end. Nobody disliked Thom, but I don't think anyone really disliked Mat. And Mat was that one that became your favorite but hadn't started out that way.Chipotlemonger said:

This. Mat was awesome. Easily one of my favorite characters across all books. Also curious how they are going to do his flashbacks later on in booksSarduakar said:Really? I always enjoyed Thom, but (for me) the make or break character is from Malkier and carries the banner of the golden crane.Chipotlemonger said:

Next would be Mat and his dice rolling head.
