Casting update:

https://winteriscoming.net/2023/06/22/natasha-okeeffe-lanfear-the-wheel-of-time-season-2/

Quote:

Natasha O'Keeffe will play Lanfear in The Wheel of Time season 2

O'Keeffe is best known for her time on Peaky Blinders as Lizzie Shelby, a former prostitute who rises to become the second wife of crime boss Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy). So O'Keeffe is no stranger to edgy, powerful material, which will come in plenty handy for playing Lanfear.

She is in the trailer

Man talk about a quiet release. This is the first I've heard of the trailer.

Just watched. September 1st is very soon. Will be watching but after last season my expectations are low.

Here's an interesting discussion, how much does the look of that trailer match up to your internal image of the story, it's events, and characters.

I'd say some of it for me is pretty close…some is way far off.

Upon rewatching the show, I found it entertaining (somewhat) if viewed as loosely based on the source, but it can be quite disappointing if you expect a faithful adaptation.

Maybe they're not super proud of it! I'm not expecting much at all, but if it's even a little better than season 1, I'll probably still watch.

I stopped reading the books after number - 11? - whichever one Robert Jordan left off at. Then I heard that he died. Didn't really post attention to the franchise after that.

By the time I heard someone picked up his pen and finished the books, it was waaay later. So much so that a reread just wasn't gonna happen.

!!! Stop all reading you are doing.

Go here and do a bridged reread. https://www.tor.com/series/wot-reread/

Then pick back up where you left off and read those 3 Sanderson books.

Trust me when I say this, you will not be disappointed one iota. This is exactly the way I reread the series after coming back to it after a long break/wait for the new books. It was a perfect method.

I don't normally get over the top with entertainment recommendations, as personal taste varies so much, but if there is one thing I will latch hard onto and lobby for, it's the Sanderson WoT books. They are spectacular.

Eh, looks decent.

I've long since accepted this is a somewhat loose adaptation. Moraine was supposed to be shorter but saucier, Lan like he could quietly eat rocks, and the women who play Elayne and Lanfear don't quite come close to the most beautiful in Andor/all time, etc.

That being said it's nice to see some famous book moments. Shadar Logoth, the Ways, Fal Dara, Tar Valon looked awesome. Overall am enjoying it enough.

Who is playing Elayne? She wasn't in season 1

Definitely trying to go into this season with "this isn't a faithful adaptation" in mind. At this point I just hope it's better, even if non-book readers enjoy it more. Could still bring more fans to the books regardless.

I agree with others that some of it looks good while some does n't. Can't quite decide what it is exactly that doesn't fit for me. Maybe a little too clean and colorful at times? I think maybe GoT has become the baseline for tv/movies (at least in my mind) which could be affecting my perspective. I'd say WoT is closer to LotR than GoT, but I still think LotR had a good look compared to this or Rings of Power.

That is how I watched season 1 after fighting back disdain one episode in to it. My wife enjoyed. I pretend it is a new show and we watch together. Very similar to how we are watching Foundation on Apple.

I was just thinking about this series the other day since it's coming back here in a day. Meant to bump the thread!

Here's to hoping season 2 is much better.

Just posted another review. All of these people are WoT dorks (I say that fondly as I am one), but most of the dorks I followed were not too pleased with season 1. The people the I heard liked it were not the book homers. I don't recall if WoTseries.com was positive on season 1. But that's two reviews that mentioned vast improvement in the first three episode.

I have listened to four spoiler free reviews and each of them were in the same vein - much better than season 1 in every regard. Ugh, I feel like I renewed my Texags subscription and starting to feel like the ags are destined for a top 10 finish. Hopefully season 2 doesn't let me down like the 2022 Aggies.

Any chance they recast the main female lead or that she at least had some cosmetic surgery on her face? HD and closeups are just not good for that gal.

Am I the only one who had no idea season 2 was set to come out today?

If not for a notification on my phone I'd never have known. Seems very different than the hype of season 1.

Watched the first episode this morning - non spoiler thoughts:

I agree with the four reviews that I watched. Much better paced. Great writing. CGI did not stand out in a bad way. Better acting. Everything is an improvement.

Does stray further away from the books. I was expecting it so did not bother me too much. I only have one real issue with a character portrayal and it was the last scene of the episode. But it was not egregious.

By the way, I loved what they did with the mydraal. Really awesome how they were portrayed.

I think this is about the best reaction I could have hoped for. Hope S2 paves the way for what turns out to be a good show, even if it doesn't stick to the source material.

One of the YouTubers i follow for news is always griping about how poorly amazon has promoted WoT. But the strikes in Hollywood have really hurt the promotion campaign. Regardless, amazon has spent minimal advertising dollars on season 2.

Which is strange as the are currently filming season 3. You'd think with that already green lit they would want to make sure that season 2 was successful.

Didn't know 3 was currently being filmed, that is a weird disconnect. They pumped the crap out of S1 it seemed!

And under delivered on the hype.

This may be a reason season 2 isn't getting as much hype. Work on putting a better product out instead of spending money on pushing the product. Let the product push itself.

First 3 episode of S2 are pretty solid

Yep, first theee episodes are very solid. Very different, but well done. Just finished them this morning. Give this another chance.

I struggled with the plot changes from the book for most of season 1. I'm only an episode into season 2 but I feel like they're missing the little moments of levity from the books. Every scene here is dark and brooding and serious. Are they ever going to give the characters any moments of happiness? I'm not sure I can deal with many seasons all of this mood.

I feel like I saw some glimpses of what Mat could be these first few episodes. I was worried about having to recast him, but I think the new guy is doing well so far.

Overall, I think S2 is definitely better. Still a little tough for me to see so many book changes, but I vowed to be better about accepting that moving forward. Does provide some room for surprises as well which is kinda nice.

OMG THANK YOU!

Had no idea these synopsis existed. I got stuck and stopped in that (now I know) notorious drop in quality in the middle of the series like two decades ago. Heard Sanderson took up the call and finished it out but just could not bring myself to go back and reread what I had read and THEN try to drudge through my original stuck point to get to the Sanderson stuff.

Got my next coulpa days locked up now.
