It's pretty cool that Nyneave was there for the gentling of Logain. Will make it that much better when she heals it and has to hold him herself since we saw two fairly strong women struggling with it.

So glad that we have a full on spoiler thread for this show in addition to that other one.

I also hope that non book readers never come in here..

Yeah I think we need to update the tread title to include that spoilers are allowed.

I liked Episode 4 the best so far. It felt like it moved faster than the first 3 episodes. I really do need to re-read the series because I had forgotten many of the details.

I'm pretty disappointed (as other's have mentioned) they didn't stay true to the gleeman's cloak.

Thoughts so far.

Just like with the trollocs, the weaves can look badass at times (Nynaeve's first time, pretty much all of the first battle), but can look very cheesy other times.

Egwynne casting is a miss. Some people have complained about Mat, but I thought he as just as whiny at the beginning of the series. He became my favorite character by the end though. I think they just need to do a better job about him inserting his foot in his mouth more. I like pretty much everyone else.

Episode 4 was action packed, and I loved Logain's storyline. Thought they did a great job showing how he was losing his mind.

I'm liked the more evidence they showed of Mat being controlled by the dagger.

Ep4 was definitely the best episode so far. I don't remember green warders being so....friendly...with each other in the books but that could just be my recollection.

No there was mention in the books that some Green Aes Sedai played hide the hot dog with their warders.

Yep. Books said some married their warders despite the prohibitions.

The only thing I can't remember is if they were all in a big pile or if the Aes Sedai somewhat rotated through the warders like Bill Paxton did with his wives in Big Love. I remember Rafe saying there would likely be a bit more than just Rand's harem though.

As others have said, episode 4 was definitely a big step forward. The intro was really good. I wish episode 1 would've had something similar (like the forming of Dragonmount). I also thought they did a great job explaining things like the taint, different ajahs, etc.

My wife wants Lan and Moiraine to be together so bad, so it's pretty funny watching her get mad as the Lan and Nynaeve relationship forms. I hope she gets over it eventually though since "the Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai'don" is one of my favorites scenes of the entire series.

Have you guys been watch the animated short stories through Amazon XRay? I can access them through the IPad. Worth watching as you go through each episode.

Really annoying that they're not coming up when I go to X-ray on my tv app but can access it on my tiny phone screen. They should've just added these to the extras area for the series and should be putting them online as extra content too.

Just worked on my laptop. Was able to cast to tv but not Xbox.

The first one explains the Breaking, Lews Therin, and the Aes Sedai. Should've been how the series started for sure!

Take the Seanchan. I seriously wonder if Jordan read the Sword of Truth, decided an old world reconquering sounded pretty cool, and dropped a version of it in his book series to the tune of about 3k new pages.
Well except we already had The Great Hunt and the Hawkwings armies returning in 1990. Wizards first rule came out 4 years later.
There are a lot of similarities between the two and Goodkind was accused of lifting ideas from other writers.
I wouldn't be surprised. I never felt RJ was padding his books. I thought he was struggling with the massive world. Goodkind was always a second rate hack. And in the mid 90s i was a huge fan of both....

Same issue with GRRM and why he'll never finish ASoIaF. He will pass before he finishes just like RJ. Difference is, he's specifically said in his will that a Brandon Sanderson situation CANT happen. So we'll never know the real ending to song of ice and fire

Sorry for the derail

You've read GRRM's will?
I don't know if it's actually in his will, but he has stated as much in interviews: https://www.tor.com/2013/11/12/george-rr-martin-no-more-game-of-thrones/

That was 8 years ago, though, so maybe he's changed his mind. He does (understandably) get pissy when people bring it up

Does anyone else watch with closed captions on? I noticed that Logains madness talking to him in the beginning of Episode 4 was named Elusha. The male voice did not have a name. Instantly made me think of Tuons truthspeaker Selucia for some reason.

Maybe edit the 1st post to remove all the links to casting stuff, and add a link to the non-spoilers thread? That would remove any excuses people have if they still see spoilers.

Oh I knew that - I just didn't recall the warders playing hide the hot dog with each other. There is a difference...not that I really care one way or another (nor does it seem those warders did either lol).

They didn't play hide the hot dog with each other. The gay warders was an invention by the show runners.

Well, you don't know what they did and didn't do. Pretty sure they were bi-warders, not gay warders.

I think the only references to homosexuality in the books were around some Aes Sedai being "pillow friends" as novices or Accepted/apprentices.

I'm rereading it now and Mat seems ok vs the book.

I'm not sure Egwynne is miscast as much as they did her wrong by making her such a love interest with Rand when there's an attraction in the books, but it's not to the point they are hooking up.

Yeah, you lose that whole thing by aging them up like they did. I get it, but I always thought it was funny how all three of them would think they sucked at talking to girls, but the other two were good at it.

Having Rand and Egwene hooking up is a poor choice. Inserting modern sexual norms into a remote agrarian village doesn't work.

I can overlook it, but it was a poor choice.

Currently reading through the series for the first time, while watching the show. Just finished The Dragon Reborn, gonna wait a week or so before picking up the next book (when I read these, it seems like I end up reading until 2 am...not smart with a poor-sleeping toddler...).

Did anyone else notice how Logain's...weaving (?) of the one power was black mixed with white? Do you think the black is meant to indicate the taint (thus why there's some white mixed in), or is it because they're trying to show that Saidar and Saidin are different?

That wasn't how it was portrayed in the female dominated Two Rivers. Premarital Sex was highly discouraged. The one couple that was engaged got caught and couldn't sit on their wedding day they were so sore from the beating

What are you arguing? In the books it was very clear that the community was conservative and didn't condone the kids sleeping around. The author made it clear it didn't happen. He made it clear our main characters didn't do it. I don't care what you say happens in many places today. It's irrelevant to the fact that Hollywood decided to sex it up when it didn't need to be and is actually runs counter to some major plots in the overall story arc.

There are a lot of things to nitpick about the show, but this is a really strange hill you're choosing to die on here.

I was responding to the dude talking about modern sexual norms, when kids going off and ****ing is neither modern nor not a norm. Not to mention a lot of the early books involve Rand and Egwene reconciling their feelings for each other and moving on as they go their own separate paths. Since you don't have those internal dialogues, you need a way to display this, and with how they've had to condense it, this is a pretty effective way.
