Could be a health issue as well. I would imagine he would not have booked many other gigs knowing he was part of a show that is planned for at least 8 seasons. They announced fairly early on that it was renewed for Season 2 as well.

Definitely possible as well. Obviously hope that's not the case

I've never read the WoT, so haven't been following this thread. I also don't know if this has been discussed, but Sanderson is a producer and mentions season one in this recent video of his. Hopefully it's encouraging to fans of the series.

As long as his producing responsibilities don't get in the way of him finishing mistborn and starting on book 5 of stormlight.

I don't think you're going to have a problem with that. He's a very active guy. Check out his YouTube channel and you can get a sense for how truly prolific he is. It's unreal the way he keeps it all going.

Brandon Sanderson is not GRRM. Sanderson is completing his magnum opus.

Brandon Sanderson is proof that terminator exists but instead of trying to kill Sarah Connor, it just came back to write fantasy. Sanderson is out there, it can't be bargained with, it can't be reasoned with, it doesn't feel pity or remorse for ****tier writers like Rothfuss, and it absolutely will not stop ever.

I was so disappointed with rhythm of war, it completely lessened my excitement for upcoming storm light books. And I LOVE way of kings. It's in my top 3 of books I have read. That's how much I disliked his latest.

Im fine with the book as long as (spoilers for those who haven't read) Shallan and Kaladin both have gotten their identity crises figured out, or at least it's evolved. I will say though, his stuff with Kaladin, while repetitive from the last books, really strengthens the character, and resonates with anyone battling depression

I also think Sanderson outsmarted himself a little bit with the fabrial science stuff. I appreciate that he is talented enough to do such a deep dive into the physics of his magic, but I think he spent too much time on it last go around. I think if the book had cut out maybe 3 navani chapters and included 3 more Dalinar chapters instead, I would have liked it way more.

As the books get more and more cosmere aware, I'm interested to see how he juggles all 16 magic systems in a meaningful way, while also not detracting from the main story of Roshar. It will be an incredible feat to pull that off, but I think he will deliver.

Rhythm of War felt like a transition book. Most of these really big epics have a book (or books) where the battleship gets turned to head toward home, and that is what this feels like. I don't have any problem with the Navani chapters simply because her becoming a Bondsmith who can fully utilize Urithiru, and the fabrial science made sense as to why she got the siblings attention. I also think something extremely interesting is coming from the fabrials. I get the mental health aspect and I appreciate it, but that's enough. Lets move on. they have both faced their demons, and now lets get back to the regularly scheduled programming. All of that said, RoW was my least favorite of the Stormlight books.

Yeah, that's why I don't have an issue as long as it's Kaladin moving forward with it. I really would not care for another bombshell revelation from Shallan. All that's really left is that she actually killed her brothers and you have just been seeing her imagination the entire time. It just feels played out. But even another book with Kaladin stuck in a depressive state and his bond with Syl fading away would seem very repetitive.

I think well see him get into a healthy balance when it comes to his mental health and dealing with the issues around him, where there will be relapses but wont go as dark as before

Yeah, I feel that way too. Sanderson has stated that the first five books are a major story-arc unto themselves. That means book five is likely going to be a big climatic end to this arc. In order for book five to be heavy in climax, RoW likely had to be heavy in exposition to get all the pieces in place. At least that's what I'm hoping.

Lol... I didn't mean to derail the thread. There is already a Stormlight thread on this forum. I just was not aware Sanderson was as involved as he seems to be, and thought it was very interesting.

Agreed. I'm personally aware of that, but this is a high fantasy novel not a book about mental health.

I mean, that's true but Sanderson has gone out of his way to make it as authentic as possible. I don't think he's going to "magic" it away but I could be wrong. I can't wait to see what happens in book 5.

Huh.

I like the look and feel, but not sure about the choice of that scene for a trailer. Cool entry by Lan/Moiraine but then just fades to awkwardness. I'm sure it'll flow better once you're watching the episode

Not sure about the scene period. For instance Rand was not there when Lan and Moraine first arrived, the scene with Rand first meeting Moraine was during the day and I am not really sure what Rand and Perrin are supposed to be talking about (maybe the "ceremony" is a reference to eqwene being allowed to braid her hair).

Overall the whole scene was just an odd blending of scenes from the book combined with the clich of the hooded traveler entering an inn.

yes I know scenes get adjusted to make a tv show or movie but this felt forced.

This series will be loosely following the main story line. The best advice I can offer is to view this version as another turning of the wheel.

I'm actually excited by this, to be honest. I know the books so well, i am looking forward to being somewhat uncertain and surprised by the TV adaptation.

For me it has been long enough from my read of the series, especially those first handful of books, that I cannot recall the more minor scene-to-scene details like this. I imagine that for a lot of people who read the books it may be the same way.

Either way, I agree with Micah. I am excited to see the adaptation.

I'm not too worried about who was where for each event, my take was they could have had a voice-over saying "I was sent to find a boy of a certain age", which would give a small tidbit on why she looked at them.

I think the hair braiding was the sign a girl was ready to be married or betrothed, something like that. Rand and Egwene were always thought to eventually get married.

To be fair, we don't know what they have before or after this scene in relation to explaining Moraine's intentions. For all we know right after this scene Moraine talks to Lan about their task.

I'm actually getting the opposite vibes. I have also been following this for years (since they originally announced years ago that a studio picked up the option to produce), and they are spending more per episode than what they spent on GoT. So, Amazon has put up the dollars to produce a good product. If it does look flimsy, it's not because Amazon did not give it the financial support.

Yep, I read the first book when it came out in 1991. Thirty years later I remember dick all about this entire series. I stopped reading after finishing book 8.

Things I remember:
  • Rand, Perrin, and Matt with Rand being the all powerful prophetic "Dragon"(?). I think Perrin is a werewolf. I don't remember what Matt can do.
  • Egwene is Rand's love interest and a burgeoning witch. I don't remember what the real name of them are.
  • Nynaneve tugs the sh^t out of that braid.
  • The Aiel are badasses.
  • The first 3-4 books were some of the best fantasy I recall ever having read.

That's it. Thus, if I watch this I won't know what's canon from the books or what isn't. Lol.

Exactly my point, watching the episode sure you'll know what's going on, but for a trailer?
