I have heard that Mat is not in the last two episodes of this season. My guess is that he will stay in TV and he will be healed at the beginning of season 2. With Rafes comments that this will be an 8 season series and we have to condense a bunch, what gets cut from The Great Hunt and Dragon Reborn? If mat is healed early, do they skip Falme and wait to introduce the Seanchan in Season 3?

Might work as an out when the actor changes for season 2, or they just ignore it.

Falme has quite a bit happen, Rand fights the "Dark One" in the sky for many to see. The horn is sounded by Mat, do they even need the great hunt? Rand gets his first wound that never heals, not really sure this needs to be carried over to the series either. Plus what you mentioned with the seanchan. It's after this that he goes to Tear, right?

Correct. Tear is next. Other than the seanchan, can all that happen at tear? I think it can. And instead of another showdown with Ishmael, it's only one that occurs in the stone after the holds callandor.

Does Egwene need to be taken prisoner for her character arc?I think so, but can this happen after Tear? I don't know. But with season 1 all eye of the world, they have seven seasons for 13 more books. They have to start making bigger changes. Obviously there is much to cut in the slog, but I think there are going to be some big cuts in books 2-6 before the slog.

As far as cuts go, i think the portal stones could be cut out. They seemed like a cool idea at the time, but by the end of it, they are the most meaningless way for them to travel. Just would need to find another way to introduce Lanfear. In later books, I think you could cut the bowl of winds and sea people completely.

Egwene being captive would be a great way to get the backstory across on the seanchan

Egwenes capture and subsequent mistreatment as a damane is a huge part of her arc and hopefully isn't fully cut. Tear could definitely work.

Much like Rand and the box, she exhibits some PTSD symptoms through the series due to the seanchan that provides a reason for her actions later on.

I really like the changes to the whitecloaks (specifically valda) as sort of an evil over the top villain that is easy to love/hate. One reason why GOT churned up so much excitement was the villains (Joffrey and Ramsey). Hopefully the same phenomenon happens here.

I really enjoyed episode 5. This is my favorite episode so far. Some really nice character development, world building, and suspense with the white cloaks and Mat's increasing madness.

Wasn't a big fan of the Loial look understanding they could not afford a CGI character, but the actor I thought did a good job representing the character's nuances.

Eamon Valda is nails. Really impressed with how he is portrayed and the ramped up version of the white cloaks.

I was a little disappointed with the first couple episodes, but the show has definitely improved and really looking forward to the climax of this season.

Can I say just how much I love Daniel Henney in this role? Feel like he's just been blowing it out of the water.

Thought this episode was good, I think I liked 4 a little better, mainly because as already said, the Stepin storyline, while good, is not central to the story. Yes, we really rammed home just how deep the Aes Sedai/Warder bond is, but you've got 3 episodes left in the season...did you really need to spend that much time on it?

And while this might be heresy, I actually like that we blew through a lot of the "separated travel" from EotW. I got bored with the whole "Rand and Mat find another inn...entertain for food...darkfriends show up...rinse and repeat" and actually skimmed a few chapters there. But I have essentially 2 issues with what they've done: 1) Moiraine has spent how many years looking for the Dragon Reborn, she thinks it's one of the 2 Rivers "kids", and now she's just chilling in TV without knowing where 4 of them are?! 2) Are we just not going to have Elayne, Gawyn, and Galad? That's a pretty big piece of the future storyline, no (keep in mind, I'm only 4 books in)?

Like I said, good episode, I feel like most of the deviations from the book were acceptable, just kinda wondering about those two points.

I'm wondering if they just bring Elayne and Co in to the White Tower when they introduce Siuan for the first time. They mentioned she was heading back from Caemlyn. And I thought they had announce the actress for Elayne prior to this season.

My assumption with Elayne and co. is that they wanted to have the focus on the main 5 and world build with the Aes Sedai without introducing another aspect to it. I think their entrance will be season 2 when they all come to the White Tower. I believe Elayne has been cast for season 2 already

Agree on Loial. The actor portrays him very well, but the moment they showed him, I said to my wife, he's supposed to be a lot bigger. Feel like they maybe could have pulled off some camera tricks ala Lord of the Rings.

That wasn't how it was portrayed in the female dominated Two Rivers. Premarital Sex was highly discouraged. The one couple that was engaged got caught and couldn't sit on their wedding day they were so sore from the beating
It's highly discouraged in many places today. That doesn't stop them.
I think it's just annoying how Hollywood wants to sex up teenagers so much. I mean, if you're writing your own story from scratch, then go for it, I guess, but when you are borrowing IP, it's just like wtf are we doing this for?

If you've watched Nancy Drew on HBO, like the first or second scene is her getting railed by some dude. Freaking Nancy Drew!

I have not watched it, but my interest was peaked by this description.
It's a CW series that HBO has the first two seasons of according to my Google search.

For Rule No. 1 purposes the err, titular character is pictured below.

According to wiki she was a 16 year old girl in the original books penned in the 1930s.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Drew

Not only does ND have sex, but the crimes she solves have supernatural elements.

Here is CW's rational for updating the material:

Nancy Drew is back, and she's not exactly the Nancy you remember.

The iconic girl detective is returning to the screen for a new CW series due this fall, and this version of Nancy (played by Kennedy McMann) is no schoolgirl: She graduated high school but didn't get into college, and is waitressing while she figures out her life. Oh, and she has casual sex with Ned Nickerson (Tunji Kasim).

"The show's not necessarily designed for 12 year-olds," executive producer Stephanie Savage told the Television Critics Association Sunday. "We're making the show for the CW and that audience."

The dark series, which mixes supernatural elements into Nancy's solving of mysteries, will certainly fit right in with CW's "Riverdale," another darker, more mature version of a beloved children's story.

"Kids today are very comfortable with understanding that there are multiple iterations of (a story)," Savage says. "You can read a book, you can watch (a movie) ... there's going to be different actors playing different characters. And what they love is the world of the story and the core character of Nancy Drew and the traits that she embodies of being smart, and brave and curious and wanting to set the world right by figuring out what went wrong."

The series, due Oct. 9, kicks off after Nancy has lost her mother and her life goes off track.
. . .
"She's sort of navigating this extreme loss," McMann says. "She's extremely lonely. She's trying to figure out a way to deal with her feelings and is kind of throwing things against the wall. I think that that's very normal and very relatable, and (sex) is just one way that she's figuring out how to fill these voids."

"She's still prim and proper like in the 1930s editions of the book," she adds. "We're just showing her in a modern setting."
. . .
Sorry for the derail. It was a fun rabbit hole.

Episodes 4 & 5 are definitely the best so far. I liked the Stepin storyline, although I see what people are saying about it being too long for such a short season. It definitely helped establish more about the Aes Sedai-Warder bond, but I feel like they're laying on the "You're going to be around for a long time Moiraine" a little too thick.
